AC Milan striker Francesco Camarda was cruelly stripped by VAR during his team’s 3-1 win over Club Brugge on Tuesday evening.

Camarda came off the bench in the 75th minute to make his Champions League debut after two second-half goals from Tijjani Reijnders opened a comfortable lead for the Italian giants at San Siro.

Three minutes before the end he seemed to have got his dream moment when he grabbed a Reijnders cross and headed his header past the goalkeeper.

Camarda, aged just 16 years and 226 days, believed he had just become the youngest Champions League goalscorer in history and celebrated wildly by taking off his shirt and throwing it to the ground.

He was fairly harassed by his teammates, but VAR quickly intervened to ensure it was a legitimate goal.

After watching several replays, it was decided that Camarda was just offside when the cross was played in, and his attempt was disallowed.

The teenager looked devastated when he heard his goal didn’t stand, and was left with his head bowed on the ground at full-time after failing to find the net in the remaining minutes.

However, he is still getting more chances to break the record, which is currently held by Ansu Fati when he scored for Barcelona against Inter Milan in 2019 at the age of 17 and 40.

Camarda was clearly upset, but it was a positive evening for Milan, who finally got their first European points on the board after losing their opening two games to Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen.

Former Chelsea star Christian Pulisic opened the scoring before Kyriani Sabbe equalized for Brugge shortly after half-time.

Reijnders then took center stage with two goals in 10 minutes before Camarda almost scored his record-breaking goal in the closing stages.
