If you’ve ever worried about your own golf game, watching Tuesday night’s game on the TGL may have given you some comfort in knowing that pros sometimes mess up like us mere mortals do.
Throughout the evening, golfers from the Jupiter Links GC and Los Angeles GC teams made a few mistakes on the simulated course in Palm Beach, Florida.
But perhaps the biggest – and funniest – mistake of the night came on the penultimate hole when Jupiter Links’ Kevin Kisner attempted a shot from the bunker.
Kisner played Colin Morikawa in the singles portion of the evening and found himself in the green sand.
But his attempt to get off the beach went horribly wrong when he fired his shot towards the flagpole from the bunker.
He hit the post and ricocheted off, causing his teammates and competitors to recoil in response.
Kevin Kisner’s bunker shot was seen moments after it hit the flagpole during the second night of TGL
Kisner’s bad shot left Tiger Woods hysterical as he couldn’t stop laughing to himself
The poor shot left Jupiter Links captain Tiger Woods laughing, who was seen cackling on instant replay in slow motion. When the broadcast stopped with the replay, Woods was still chuckling, unable to control himself.
You suspect Woods could only laugh, especially considering the golfer’s team had a poor debut in the high-tech golf league he helped create.
On a night when Woods was presented with the song “Eye of the Tiger,” his team simply couldn’t meet their rival’s challenge.
Jupiter Links was thoroughly outclassed by the LAGC team of Morikawa, Justin Rose and Sahith Theegala, losing 12-1 that evening.
By the time the triples portion of the evening concluded, LAGC was already up 8-1 and Jupiter had a huge mountain to climb in singles. They failed to score a single point in the last six holes: they halved the tenth and twelfth, while losing holes 11, 13, 14 and 15.
TGL returns next Tuesday night when the New York Golf Club team of Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young take on the Atlanta Drive GC team of Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover, Billy Horschel and Justin Thomas.
It will be Atlanta’s debut in the league. New York played on the opening night of the competition and lost 9-2 to The Bay Golf Club.
After that match, there will be only one team left to make their debut: the Boston Common Golf team of Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.
