Watch the shocking moment a daring crossing over crocodile infested waters almost ends in tragedy
Shocking footage has emerged of the harrowing moment a truck pulling a pick-up truck and its occupants across crocodile-infested waters at a notorious crossing snapped, causing a terrible disaster.
The vehicles were attempting to cross Cahills Crossing on Monday, a river in the Northern Territory’s Kakadu National Park known for crocodile sightings.
But the rope broke and the boat was swept away by the current. Then the boat got stuck in the water and tilted a little. Because of this the boat could not go further downstream.
Fortunately, the driver and his male passenger managed to escape through the window of the pickup and climb onto the hood before climbing into the truck that arrived to pick them up.
A man in the back of the truck helped the pair to safety.
After they were rescued, about 20 large saltwater crocodiles were seen hiding in the water near the stranded pickup truck.
Cahills Crossing has a long history of car claims and the two men were lucky that their pickup got stuck instead of being dragged along with the car inside.
Cahills Crossing has seen its share of tragedies in the past. In 2017, a man was killed while trying to cross the dangerous zone on foot.

In 1987, 40-year-old Kerry McLoughlin was decapitated by a crocodile while fishing in the area.
And in 2021, a group of tourists were forced to swim through crocodile-infested waters after their Subaru Forester became stuck in the river.
Recently, a popular tour operator called families who were fishing and picnicking near the spot in late August, saying that “a deadly crocodile attack was imminent.”
Cyaround Australia Tours shared stunning footage of a young family fishing just metres away from at least ten crocodiles at Cahills Crossing, unaware of the deadly dangers lurking beneath.

“This family was literally having a picnic in the street, the kids were sitting by the water’s edge the whole time and they had absolutely no crocodile sense,” the tour operator fumed.
‘At that time there were about ten large crocodiles visible within 50 metres of them and probably another 25 crocodiles that we couldn’t see at that time.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s only a matter of time before another fatality occurs. Hundreds of people will see this.”
Cahills Crossing is only a few metres wide, but is considered one of the most dangerous waters in Australia. It is home to around 120 crocodiles, some of which are up to five metres long.
