Wastewater tapping: government sets mandate for 50% reuse for bulk consumers by 2031
The government has proposed regulations aimed at reducing water waste, with new mandates setting a bold target: 50 percent wastewater reuse by 2031 for high-volume consumers. These regulations require entities that consume more than 5,000 liters daily to register with authorities and implement comprehensive wastewater treatment measures.
For new bulk users, the minimum reuse mandates will be gradually increased. For example, housing associations will start with a 20 percent reuse requirement in fiscal year 2027-28 (FY28), increasing to 50 percent by FY31.
