β€œWhat's going on, it's Cam Ward and I'm declaring for the NFL Draft,” he said in the five-second video.

The 21-year-old from Lake Jackson, Texas began his career at FCS level program Incarnate Ward before transferring to Washington State and spending two years as the starting QB.

In his second season at Washington State, Ward's numbers increased to a total of 3,736 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 66.6 percent completion percentage.

He also increased his rushing numbers to eight touchdowns in his second season, despite the team's record dropping to 5–7.

Ward was one of the most highly-rated QBs in the transfer portal this season and had received notable interest from the Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes before announcing his decision to turn pro.

Florida State appeared to move quickly in their search for a QB after news of Ward's decision broke, receiving a transfer commitment from former Oregon State Beavers QB DJ Uiagalelei.

Ward will likely be selected in the mid-late rounds of April's draft, with several quarterbacks expected to be listed ahead of him on draft boards.

2022 Heisman Trophy winner USC's Caleb Williams, 2023 Heisman Trophy winner North Carolina's Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye are currently considered the top QB prospects this year and all have the potential to be selected in the top five of the April draft.

Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, Bo Nix of Oregon and JJ McCarthy of Michigan are also currently expected to be ranked higher than Ward, assuming he is also taken before the draft.
