A shooting at a Washington state elementary school during dismissal has left the school on lockdown, with police rushing to the scene of the alleged suspect.
The school district in Richland, Washington sent an alert to parents confirming a shooting at William Wiley Elementary in West Richland.
At least one adult woman was shot dead, police said Tri City Herald referring to a police report.
West Richland police are reportedly searching a home on South Highlands Boulevard, just down the street from the school.
“The West Richland police believe they know who the perpetrator is and have closed down their home,” they said NBC.

‘The perpetrator is still on the run. The district is working on reunification efforts. Another update will follow soon.’
A resident said he heard four to five gunshots in his backyard Monday afternoon.
‘I thought it was someone hitting something with a hammer. It didn’t sound like a gun. Then a woman came flying over here before the police even got there and started screaming that someone had been shot,” Chris Worley said.
The school district sent an alert to parents, adding that all students still on campus were being sent to a secure area, even those about to leave on the school bus.
“Students and staff at our schools have been moved indoors and placed in a critical lockdown.”
“If students were loaded onto buses but were still at school, they were moved to the school building. We will keep you updated as soon as we have more information.”
Richland police confirmed in a Facebook post that they responded to the scene Monday afternoon.
“There is an active incident in the area of William Wiley Elementary and South Highlands Blvd,” they wrote.
