Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera is torn between recovering quarterback Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke after backup gave the Eagles their first loss of the season and is ‘playing without fear’
According to head coach Ron Rivera, the Washington Commanders are currently dealing with mid-season QB controversy.
Commander starter Carson Wentz can be activated by IR this week after his recovery from a broken ring finger.
But Rivera isn’t sure if he’ll be ready to put Wentz back in the lineup or stick with Taylor Heinicke, who just conceded the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season.

“You have to look at the momentum and the mood of the team,” Rivera said. “There are many factors.”
“You look at what’s best for the team and that’s how it should be,” said Rivera. There’s a great saying, “You treat everyone the same, you treat everyone fairly, but you treat everyone according to the team.”
“So the decision will be made about the team first and foremost. Whoever the starter is, I will fully commit to it. I don’t want them looking over their shoulder.’
However, Rivera could not say whether whoever he designated as a starter for the next game would remain a starter for the rest of the season.
Wentz was acquired by the Commanders in an off-season trade and stated that he would be the starter from day one.
However, Heinicke currently has the locker support and confidence of his offensive teammates who are drawn to his style of play.

“He’s been great to us since he’s been here, honestly,” said receiver Terry McLaurin. “He plays without fear, everything is not pretty.”
He’s going to play longer with his legs and get the difficult yards. He’s going to put us in the right situations. You just feel confident with a guy like that over there.’
“A lot of people want to measure his height, his arm, all those things. You can’t measure what’s in his chest.’
