The release date of the final season of the Netflix show Top Boy has finally been confirmed as the trailer for the 10-episode series also came out.
The gritty British drama has been a huge hit for the streaming giant since debuting on the platform in 2019.
However, without the involvement of Canadian rapper Drake, the show’s production would never have happened.
So, did Drake really make Top Boy? And is he in it?

Was Top Boy made by Drake?
While Drake didn’t make Top Boy, he was pivotal in becoming a Netflix hit.
Originally a Channel 4 creation, the show had two successful four-part series between 2011 and 2013, before being cancelled.
Its creator, Ronan Bennet, said he “couldn’t shake off the blow,” but amazingly, he was approached by Drake himself when he expressed interest in helping revive the program.
Bennet told BAFTA Television’s The Sessions: ‘When I heard Drake was interested I didn’t pay much attention to it, partly because I didn’t know who he was.
‘It wasn’t until I met him a little later that it became clear that he was serious and that we really had a chance to move forward.
“I realized that he might turn out to be quite big. We met him in London, myself and my colleagues, he was great.’
But Hotline Bling’s singer “didn’t want to control it, just to make sure the original creators had a chance to continue as they were.”
However, he did become an executive producer of the show when it was picked up in 2017.
The artist told the Hollywood reporter at the time: ‘That human aspect attracted me. I just went looking for them.
“Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous there? I remember hitting Future and I was like, “This show is incredible.”‘
Is Drake in Top Boy?
Renaissance: Top Boy had initially aired two four-part series on Channel 4, but was dropped by the broadcaster. Netflix picked it up four years later
Rumors: Ever since news broke about Drake’s involvement with the show as an executive producer, there have been questions about a possible cameo, but there’s no sign of anything like that becoming a reality. Pictured: Rapper turned actor Kano as Sully
Ever since Drake has been involved in the production of the series, there have been rumors and questions about whether he will make some kind of cameo appearance.
The rapper began an acting career in the 2000s as a teenager in Degrassi: The Next Generation before his music career took over.
However, he made another acting appearance in 2022, in Amsterdam with Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy.
But when it comes to his beloved Top Boy, there’s no sign of the megastar showing up.
Ashley Walters, who has played Dushane – one of the lead actors – since starting on Channel 4, revealed why he warned the singer about a TV appearance.
He told Charlie Sloth in 2019: ‘He’s such a good actor, but will people let him shed that Drake skin?
Is it correct that the first thing he does is to return to his acting career? Because people will wait to kill him for it.’
When is Top Boy Season 3?

The final trailer for the new season dropped on August 14, as did the confirmation of the new season’s release date.
The one minute and 45 second clip teased an ultimate showdown between the two main characters Sully (Kano) and Dushane.
