The outage that affected Facebook, Messenger and Instagram has sparked numerous conspiracy theories, leaving the platforms inactive for an hour and a half.
Elon Musk’s X was flooded with conspiracy theories about why Facebook, Instagram and Messenger had to shut down for at least an hour and a half.
Many of the posts indicated liberals were trying to stop Super Tuesday, but others believed they could be Nikki Haley supporters as the presidential candidate ran ads on radio, print and television.

Conspiracy theorists flocked to X to accuse Meta’s failure of ‘silencing’ them
A persistent theory that Taylor Swift is pushing people to vote against Trump was illustrated after the blackout, reinforcing people’s original belief that she is trying to influence the presidential election.
Swift posted a message to her Story telling people to go to the polls, saying, “I want to remind you to vote the people who most represent YOU into power.
“If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today.”
The outage reportedly happened shortly after Swift’s post, and people accused the pop star of being against right-wing voters and said she is “trapped in a debilitating mindset.”
Swift has been a trailblazer for her followers – self-proclaimed “Swifties” – and the latest question is whether she can sway her fanbase to vote for one presidential candidate over another.
President Joe Biden’s campaign has gone so far as to attempt to block her support, while Trump’s allies have declared a “holy war” on the pop star and Fox News commentators have urged her to hide her political ideologies hold.
However, conspiracy theorists believe Swift could influence turnout by telling people to go to the polls and secure a win for Biden.
Her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has also promoted theories that the couple is using their celebrity status to rig the 2024 presidential election in Biden’s favor.

The Meta social media outage also led to conspiracy theories that the cables cut in the Red Sea prevented users from accessing their accounts.

Three cables under the Red Sea that provide internet and telecommunications were cut on Monday, a full 24 hours before Facebook, Instagram and Messenger suffered the two-hour outage.
There are suspicions that the cables were targeted by Yemen’s Houthi rebels as part of an ongoing effort to pressure Israel to end the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis have denied accusations that they attacked the cable lines.
Conspiracy theories were rampant after the power outage
A Facebook insider told DailyMail.com that the company’s internal systems were faulty and may have led to Tuesday’s outage.
But the fact that it was a global outage didn’t stop American conspiracy theorists from rushing to claim that it was a blatant attempt to interfere with their right to free speech.
“Recently nationwide outage at AT&T and now FB and Instagram have suffered a global outage…it’s not a coincidence and it’s all planned,” one person wrote on Facebook upon regaining access to their account.
‘They constantly warn about cyber attacks and possible EMP attacks. This is all part of the New World Order that is coming soon,” she added.

For those who don’t know, the New World Order is a conspiracy theory that believes the government has an agenda to quietly create a totalitarian world power.
Former President Donald Trump will face off against Republican candidate Nikki Haley in the Super Tuesday primaries to determine who will face President Joe Biden in November.
Voting takes place on Super Tuesday in most US states, including Vermont, Virginia, Alaska, Maine, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
Posts claimed the glitch was a way to give Nikki Haley an advantage over former President Donald Trump in the polls
Meta’s social media platforms were down for about two hours, leaving many users unable to access their accounts and leaving people wondering if it was a “voting coincidence or a conspiracy.”
The outage affected other countries including the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe, China, Australia and Mexico.
Other users clapped back at the ridiculous conspiracy theory, with one person writing on X: ‘This is stupid. WTF does Facebook or Instagram have to do with voting?
“You show up and vote (or mail in your ballot, in which case you’ve probably already voted).
‘They have nothing to do with each other. Everything isn’t a big conspiracy folks. Take it easy!’

Users accused Meta of trying to influence the outcome of Super Tuesday elections
Social media users are linking the Meta outage to AT&T’s Feb. 23 outage, claiming the conspiracy extends to the phone company that left millions of people unable to call or text without Wi-Fi.
‘COMPLOT THEORY! FB just experienced an outage/outage on Tuesday. Some reports say that HACKERS are getting ready – PRACTICE – for the upcoming elections, aka SUPER TUESDAY… unconfirmed reports of course……’, someone wrote on Facebook.
They added, “In this DIGITAL / WI-FI / INTERNET age/era, we must always remain vigilant with our personal information/data and personal security. Stay vigilant. Pay attention to your safety. Stay alive.’
