Was Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury’s breakup a publicity stunt? Fans brand split a ‘PR tool’ after former couple were seen kissing on New Year’s Eve

Molly-Mae Haag’s fans have been left wondering if her split from Tommy Fury was a publicity stunt after the former couple were pictured kissing on New Year’s Eve.

The Love Island stars, both 25, announced their split in August after their relationship was marred by rumors the boxer cheated. He denied the claims.

However, this week they were spotted packing on the PDA at Manchester United footballer Luke Shaw’s Hogmanay party in Cheshire, seemingly rekindling their romance.

Fans of Molly-Mae were quick to call the breakup a “PR tool,” claiming the “stunt” helped further Tommy’s book and documentary as well as Molly-Mae’s clothing line.

When the 25-year-old influencer shared a new photo of herself on Instagram on Friday, her followers shared their doubts in the comments section.

“They didn’t even really break up, money money money,” one person said angrily.

Others added: “Using the ‘breakup’ as PR for Maebe, Tommy’s book and documentary. But kissing Tommy on NYE? Useful!!!’; ‘It was all a PR STUNT. Well played’; So the breakup was fake??’;

“Well, she fooled everyone. Funny how they are back together now that his book is out, her clothing brand and now that the documentary is finished. Everyone played like a fool, all for more money’; ‘Why are you hugging Tommy? Back together?!’;

‘Tommy liked the photo, the New Year’s Eve kiss must be true’; ‘Tommy liked it, is it true what is said there?’; ‘Tommy doesn’t like this photo’; ‘Everyone has scared Tommy off now that he doesn’t like the photo anymore. Don’t play with us anymore, lol.’

MailOnline has contacted Molly-Mae’s representative for comment.

In the aftermath of their breakup in August, Tommy’s reputation was marred by cheating rumors. In response, he lost 20,000 Instagram followers – a huge blow to the boxer and social media influencer who makes money from his platforms.

Outside of boxing, Tommy, like his ex-fiance, has explored various ventures and released his memoir, Lightning Can Strike Twice: My Life as a Fury, in October.

He confirmed he was about to lift the lid on his split from Molly-Mae in a new chapter in the upcoming autobiography.

After talks with publishers amid his shocking split from the influencer, Tommy made changes to his book and said he would address the reasons for the split.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the sportsman told fans that it had not been ‘easy’, before confirming that his book would include an ‘extra chapter’ to reflect on ‘current’ events in his life.

A source told The Sun that the pair were ‘all over each other’ at New Year’s drinks after Molly invited Tommy ‘at the last minute’, but she is not ‘ready to launch anything official’.

They said: ‘Things are still delicate, but they have had some long, difficult conversations over the past few weeks and are finally in a great place.

‘Molly-Mae decided to invite Tommy at the last minute. It was all very accessible. The pair were very flirty all evening and it’s clear their physical attraction remains strong.

‘They were all over each other as the compère counted down to midnight – it was really cute to watch.

‘But Molly-Mae isn’t ready to officially start anything yet. She has been very hurt over the past six months and is understandably feeling quite burned.”
