He wasn’t on the schedule, but NBA star and Olympic gold medalist Stephen Curry appeared on the big screens Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention to lend his support to Kamala Harris’ campaign.
Curry was greeted by huge cheers from the thousands of people who had gathered at the United Center for the closing night of the convention. He said his heightened sense of patriotism during the recent Olympics made it clear to him that “Kamala Harris as president will bring that unity back.”
Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors and said last month he was supporting Harris, closed by saying: “She would be right at home in the Oval Office. In the words of Michelle Obama: Do something. Go vote.”

Earlier this week, Curry’s Warriors coach Steve Kerr said took the DNC stage to also support Harris.
Harris, who Curry and Team USA visited during their training camp in preparation for the Olympic Games in July, has built a friendship with the Warriors star over the years, largely based on their close ties in San Francisco and like-minded political views.
Curry spoke highly of his relationship with Harris during a press conference prior to the U.S. team’s first group stage match at the Paris Olympics.
“She represents the Bay Area,” Curry said. “She’s a huge supporter of ours, so I want to give her that energy back. We’re here representing our country and these next few months are monumental for the direction we’re going. Hopefully, this is a great way for us to do our part to continue to unite our country with how sports brings a lot of people together.
“For her, right now, knowing what’s going to happen, it’s all about positive energy and optimism, knowing how divided our country is right now. [I’m] just excited about the journey that awaits her.”
