Warning to dog owners about popular brand of dog food that may contain PLASTIC
- The two products from producer Lily’s Kitchen are in stock at Pets at Home
- The Food Standards Agency said the products ‘may contain bits of plastic’
A popular brand of dog food has been urgently recalled due to fears it could contain plastic.
Food safety watchdogs have issued a warning about two cans of Lily’s Kitchen’s, stocked exclusively at Pets At Home.
It is feared that the products ‘may contain small pieces of plastic’.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), which published the warning, said it makes them “unsafe for pets” and “presents a potential choking hazard.”
The FSA recalls food when customers are asked to return a product, when problems are noticed with food, meaning it should not be sold.
The FSA recall affects Lily’s Kitchen’s Fishy Fish Pie 400g can, sold at Pets at Home as part of the Grain Free Wet Adult Dog Multipack 24x400g cans. The Can with Chicken and Turkey 400g, also available at Pets at Home, was part of the Classic Wet Adult Multipack 24x400g cans. Both cans have an expiration date of September 1, 2024
One recall concerns the 400g can of Fishy Fish Pie, sold as part of the Grain Free Wet Adult Dog Multipack 24x400g cans.
The other recall concerns the 400g Chicken and Turkey Casserole, sold as part of the Classic Wet Adult Multipack 24x400g cans.
Both cans have an expiration date of September 1, 2024.
“If you have a multipack containing any of the affected recipes, we ask that you do not feed it to your pet and instead contact Lily’s Kitchen for a full refund – with or without a receipt,” said Lily’s Kitchen .
“They will arrange for the item to be collected from you.”
It is not known when the plastic entered the production line.
The recall only affects the cans sold as part of a multipack.
“This does not affect 400 gram cans sold individually or as part of another multipack,” noted Lily’s Kitchen.
It comes as food safety watchdogs also issued a ‘do not eat’ warning to one of Sainsbury’s own-brand cheeses earlier in the day, fearing it could contain salmonella.
They also sounded alarm bells about Itsu’s 180g packs of four frozen chocolate bao buns – stocked in Tesco and Waitrose – after concerns were raised that they may contain milk, which is not stated on the label.
