Want to trick your gaming rig? You can get a CPU cooler with a 6-inch HD display, but it will cost you

We’re used to seeing dazzling and tricked out best gaming PCs, like beautiful cases with glass side panels that show off the innards, RGB-lit processors and graphics cards with top-level cable management, liquid cooling systems that look like they’re straight out of a science fiction movie. and more.

But this CPU cooler, called the Lamptron ST060, is guaranteed to surpass anything you’ve ever seen, as it features a 6-inch HD display on the socket. The screen is useful for displaying video or data from motherboard sensors. However, the latter will most likely require a subscription if you use AIDA64. And this is on top of whatever you pay for that screen, as the cooler retails for $300 (about £240 / AU$460).

Most manufacturers use the extra space and attention around the CPU cooler to ensure that heat pipes, fin stacks, and fans are mounted properly to keep things running as efficiently and quietly as possible. But according to Lamptron, there is a lot of cooling power in the area. A pair of 120mm fans are located directly below the screen, as well as six 6mm heatpipes and a dual-tower heatsink.

All this is capable of transferring up to 260W of thermal energy from a CPU, or so Lamptron claims, which is perfect for high-end and equally high heat-generating processors such as the Intel Core i9-14900K or the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. So if you have the best processor and enough money, the Lamptron ST060 may be the cooler to invest in.

There are two versions available: the first with black fans and a black heat sinkand the second with ARGB fans and a silver heatsink.

Expensive does not equal better

Seeing products like the Lamptron ST060 is certainly interesting. I can never suppress my excitement for seeing expensive and unique accessories, components and gaming rigs. Some examples are the sneaker-shaped gaming PC and the life-size mech-shaped gaming PCwith which also the dreaded ‘PC aesthetic’ that I so despise.

But there is also a certain annoyance I feel when I see these types of products. Knowing that the market is as concerned about budget-oriented products as it is now, especially thanks to the cost of living crisis, it almost feels insulting to bring something so precious and yet so unnecessary to the market.

This wouldn’t be a problem if it was occasional, but then you have tech companies like Razer, which is already known for its expensive range, launching a whole range of gaming hardware and products that tech’s worst love affair with decadence. If you are interested in purchasing the Lamptron ST060, I have absolutely no shame in doing so. But there should be more consistent and good quality options for budget buyers.
