Want to find your PERFECT lipstick shade? Pinched finger beauty trick that’s claimed to help you find the right hue goes viral – but does it REALLY work?

Do you want to look for the perfect lipstick color? Try this beauty hack that’s going viral on TikTok.

In the clip shared by the Underrated Simpsons moments account, the content creator advised followers that they could find the perfect shade by squeezing the very tip of their finger and comparing it to the colors of lipstick.

“This was how women in the 1950s learned to find their perfect lipstick,” the overlay text read.

While it’s unclear whether it was actually a makeup counter-trick in the 1950s, many people on TikTok enjoyed the beauty hack.

A TikTok content creator urged his followers to get the perfect shade by squeezing the very tip of their finger and then comparing it to the colors of lipstick

‘No lipstick color ever suits me, it’s always way too bold shades, even neutral shades close to my lip colour. I think I’ll try this next time,” one commenter mused.

However, not everyone appreciated the tutorial as many people learned how to match their lip color differently.

‘I learned to match the inside of my lower lip. I’m sure I made some poor employee nervous,” one person claimed.

Another joked: ‘That’s a lot easier than punching your nipples out lol’, as some women say the ideal shade is just that shade.

“If you want a darker lipstick just wait five minutes,” read one popular comment, while another beauty enthusiast joked: “Hold it long enough and your natural shade will be blue.”

Others thought the lipstick trick was more quack than hack, asking, “No, because whose finger could actually change half of those colors?”

Another wondered: “Whose finger would ever turn as bright red as the first lipstick?”

Commenters joked about the trick, with some saying theirs would be purple or blue

Makeup artists are divided on whether the beauty tutorial really works.

Makeup artist based in Boston, Massachusetts Carla B. told DailyMail.com that it’s a “great, easy way to find the perfect lip color,” and works “because you see colors that naturally occur in your skin.”

According to Carla, it “shows the depth of your skin tone, your undertone and how pink or red you look,” which “tells you exactly which shades of lipstick suit you best.”

Cerre Franciscusthe co-founder and CEO of Ciele Cosmetics, is also a fan of the ‘fun and playful’ beauty trick, saying: ‘Anything that can help take the guesswork out is a win for me!”

Cerre’s favorite lipstick is Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice, a bold mix of bright pink and red that was first created in the 1950s. She jokes, “You know I’m going to pinch my fingertips real hard!”

However, based in New York Drita Paljevicthe head makeup artist at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty, disagrees with the technique, explaining that it may be able to handle more blues and purples than intended.

“Everyone’s lips are different colors, so testing lipstick colors directly on the lips will help you find the best match for your natural color,” Drita advises.

Hair and makeup artist from New Jersey Andy Cooper also doesn’t like the TikTok trend.

‘The math is not math for me in this trend!’ he proclaims, asking, “Isn’t it just as easy and less aggressive to apply a little bit to the inside of your elbow or the back of your hand to see what it looks like on your skin?”

Andy suggests trying the lip tint of your choice first, explaining, “While this trend may work for those with fair skin tones, I doubt this is recommended for my deep melanin friends.”

“If your finger turns the color of a Chanel Mysterieuse, see a doctor!” the makeup professional joked.
