Walmart worker says the only way to get trapped in walk-in oven is if someone throws you in there

A Walmart employee is giving a chilling new look at how the 19-year-old employee was “baked to death” in the store’s walk-in oven.

Last weekend, Gursimran Kaur’s charred remains were found in the walk-in oven of the Walmart where she worked in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In a series of TikTok videos, current employees and former employees from various superstore locations share insights into the inner workings of working in a Walmart bakery.

TikTok user Chris Breezie demonstrated how the oven at the Walmart she worked at turns on from the outside, requiring the door handle to be pulled “really hard” to open it.

“I don’t even know if I would fit in here,” she said. ‘I’m 6 feet tall, of average build. I would have to stoop to get in.”

She pointed out that there was no emergency latch on the inside of the oven, nor was there any task that required an employee to physically enter the oven.

“I would never be here whether I’m cleaning it or not,” she said.

The employee showed that to close and lock the oven you have to ‘push’ [the latch] with all your might and pull the lever aside and lock it in place.”

“There’s no way anyone could lock themselves in there,” she said.

However, Breezie did not rule out that someone would be shoved into the oven against their will.

“Someone could throw me in there and lock me up there, but that’s a completely different scenario,” she said.

Another video from a Walmart employee named Mary echoed the same sentiments.

‘It doesn’t make any sense. This door doesn’t close on its own… It doesn’t lock. It’s designed not to do that. You have to press it and hear the click,” the Walmart employee said.

Mary demonstrated how to get into the oven and use the emergency release on the inside of the oven, showing that it is a simple push function on the other side of the door.

“I’m not trying to theorize or conspire, it’s just hard to wrap my head around it when Walmart’s bakery ovens are so safe to use,” she said in a comment.

Her video has been viewed 3.6 million times and prompted an outpouring of responses from other Walmart employees across the country, who agreed that the oven should not have closed easily.

Another bakery worker previously said the safety release on the inside is metal, meaning it would get extremely hot when the oven was turned on.

Police are investigating Kaur’s death and the Walmart superstore remains closed more than a week after the tragedy.

It is still unclear how Kaur got stuck in the oven.

A call first reported by DailyMail.com early this week revealed it involved a ‘female employee’ locked in an oven in the bakery.’

‘Oven is on. I’m not sure if the staff can turn it off,” the control room officer warned.

Kaur’s mother, who worked at Walmart with her daughter, made the disturbing discovery after frantically searching for Kaur in the store.

A colleague noticed ‘leakage’ coming from the walk-in oven.

“Imagine the horror her mother experienced – opening the oven herself,” a family spokesperson said in a speech. GoFundMe appeal.

“As you all know, her charred remains were found after a few hours in the bakery’s walk-in oven.”

Kaur’s mother is reportedly ‘traumatised’ by the discovery.

While the exact brand of the oven involved in the incident has not yet been revealed, other Walmart stores in the United States are known to have installed ovens like the one in the photo.

“The suffering of this family is unimaginable and indescribable,” the Maritime Sikh Society Executive said in the appeal.

Kaur is remembered as a “beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams.”

Walmart officials said in a statement: “We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family. We extend our sincere condolences to those closest to them.

‘We are also supporting our staff during this incredibly difficult time and have provided 24/7 virtual care and on-site support, including grief counselling.’
