Wallabies fans have taken to social media to criticize Eddie Jones after he was confirmed as Japan's new head coach.

The Japan Rugby Federation confirmed the sport's worst-kept secret on Wednesday by announcing Jones' return to the position in which he thrived between 2012 and 2015.

Jones reportedly first held talks with the Brave Blossoms before the Rugby World Cup, while still in charge of the Wallabies, and left Rugby Australia in October, further fueling speculation about his commitment to the job.

And unimpressed Aussies have criticized their former coach following Wednesday's announcement, using X – formerly known as Twitter – to express their disappointment.

“Hardly the behavior of a man's leader,” one fan wrote.

Another said: 'Smash and Grab! What a mess.'

A third fan said of Jones' four-year contract: “That's only a three-month deal in Eddie years.”

Reflecting on Jones' doomed spell with the Wallabies, which saw them dumped on the pool stage, one fan wrote: 'Like a car crash in slow motion'.

“It's going to be difficult for him to keep this up for four years.”
