Just like the previous two Knives out films, Blanc is joined by an eclectic group of characters, played by some seriously talented actors. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery‘s story short has not yet been revealed. In fact, it’s the only thing we really know about it, aside from the cast and writer/director Knives out 3 is the official title, which has made people become amateur detectives to try to figure out what it means.
It’s no big secret that it belongs to Johnson Knives out films are inspired by Agatha Christie. This time, however, we may experience something completely different. In fact, in January 2023, he said Variety: “(That’s) what got me creatively jazzed. I don’t need to replicate the last film at all. The goal is to go in a completely new direction tonally and thematically.”
In the Instagram announcement Knives out 3which simply contain images of a black coffin, drawls Blanc Wake up, dead man“Also my most dangerous case yet,” suggesting his latest murder mystery may not be so easy to solve.
We don’t expect the third part of the franchise to be very different from what has come before, mind you. Which connects the previous two Knives out films together – in addition to the murders – are themes of class war, inequality, fame and, like many TV and film dramas of the moment, skewering the one percenters. So it’s likely that these issues will continue to shine in the spotlight in Johnson’s own unique way.
There are already some fascinating fan theories circulating online that Johnson could have planted a little Easter egg Glass onion what to suggest Knives out 3 could also pass. Early in the film, when all the characters meet at the dock of Miles Bron’s Greek island, the assembled guests are surprised to see Blanc. Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn) soon shows up and asks, “Did you solve the murder of – oh, what’s that ballet dancer thing called, that’s you?”, which some viewers suspect is a hint. Wake up, dead man‘s plot. Can we expect a ballet-themed murder mystery next? Whether or not it is, Johnson’s lips are sealed – for now.
Will there be a fourth Knives Out movie?
Love the kitschy murder mystery franchise? Well, you’re in luck, because Johnson and Craig say they want to keep making fun movies together as long as they can, which is a Knives from 4 look very likely.
Speak with Variety in 2022, Craig said: “If he (Johnson) keeps writing them, I’ll keep doing them. That makes it easy then, he’s such a great writer that I can do it on the page.”
However, the duo is aware of the ‘quality versus quantity’ debate. Speak with Term in November 2022 about a possible fourth film in the Knives out franchise, Craig said: “If there ever came a point where Rian and I thought we were just rolling them out, I think we would back out. I mean, I just don’t think either of us wants to do that in the future.” unless people actually enjoy it, forget it.”
Meanwhile, Johnson chatted with him in January 2023 Netflix Tudum about the possibilities of, at the request of fans, a Knives Out/The Muppets intersection. But he ultimately ignored it, explaining, “I think these two things have very different rules.” You can have a Benoit Blanc mystery with Muppets in it, but they’ll feel out of place. Muppet movie starring Benoit Blanc, but it feels like a Muppet movie. I wouldn’t want to compromise either of them. And I feel like that’s what you have to do to make it right and make it work make a choice and if I ever make a Muppet movie, I just want to make a great Muppet movie.”
