A waitress was surprised after a customer left a handwritten note complaining about her “rude” act.
The American employee, who served an elderly couple, found a message on the receipt written in black pen. It said, “No tip because it was very rude to ask my wife and me if we wanted separate checks???”
The angry restaurant claims he refused to tip because she asked if they wanted to share the $102 bill or not.
“He had the guts to write this with my pen,” the waitress wrote next to the photo on Reddit.
She said the man looked “late fifties” or “early sixties,” while his wife looked “much younger.”

“At my job, we should ask if they are separate checks, not assume they are together,” she added.
“We had a couple and a few kids came over for dinner one time. The server brought out one check and the woman started to panic because the server assumed she and the man were still together.
She went on and on about the fact that just because they look like a family doesn’t mean they’re one check. That’s why we’re asking, because we want to prevent this situation from happening again.’
The Reddit thread received more than 13,000 likes and more than 1,500 comments, the majority of which were on the employee side.
‘Isn’t it common to ask whether everything is on one ticket or not? I am literally asked this every time I am with more than one other adult,” one wrote.
“Chances are they didn’t want to tip anyway and found some lame excuse,” another supposed.
‘How the hell are you supposed to know that? I’ve seen people who look married and were brother and sister, both with wedding rings,” a third added.
Another said, “Haha, no, we’re married, one check is fine.” Is that really that hard? Talk about an ego.’
Others mock the customer for his handwriting.
“Looks like he wrote it with the pen in his whole fist,” one joked.
“These kinds of things are so ridiculous, it’s laughable. I can’t believe people like that even exist,” said another.
