Several people, including children, were injured in a horror crash between a car and a truck on Wednesday morning.

A rescue operation is underway after the incident in Western Australia, which reportedly left several people trapped in their vehicles.

Two rescue helicopters were deployed in the major incident, which happened around 6:20 a.m. local time along Goomalling-Toodyay Road in Wongamine, about 100 kilometers northeast of Perth.

Other emergency services are also on the scene.

St John WA said the injured children would be flown to Perth Children’s Hospital.

At least five ambulances and six fire trucks were on the scene.

A spokeswoman for St John told the Perth now news site they treated “several people with serious injuries.”

Dozens of firefighters are working to free people trapped in the cars.

There are road closures for motorists traveling in the area with Main Roads WA advising everyone to drive ‘with extreme caution’ when passing through the area at Irish Town Road.
