VMware launches the new VeloCloud SASE to connect all your edge infrastructure
VMware is reaching back to the past to launch its new SASE offering at Mobile World Congress 2024.
The company unveiled VMware VeloCloud SASE, a single-vendor SASE solution that brings together VeloCloud SD-WAN and Symantec SSE.
VMware acquired VeloCloud in 2017 and initially phased out the company’s brand several years later, but has now brought it back with the launch of a new SASE product.

Abe Ankumah, head of Broadcom’s SD-WAN, Software-Defined Edge Division, revealed the news in a pre-brief ahead of MWC 2024, noting that the launch would enable customers to modernize their underlying infrastructure while increasing revenue generate new services.
He added that VMware’s approach to the software-engineered edge should focus on enabling right-sized infrastructure (in terms of shrinking the tech stack), zero-touch orchestration (as edge locations are increasingly distributed and not always constantly online), and network programmability (looking at the need to be agile and flexible where necessary).
Ankumah added that the motivation behind the reintroduction of the VeloCloud brand was because many of its customers and partners still refer to VMware’s existing offering as VeloCloud, despite the brand being previously hidden.
“The customer is always right, so we’re going to reflect that and bring the brand back,” he laughed.
“The number of new use cases we can unlock… reflects the full power of everything we do in the software-defined edge,” he added.
