More than 60,000 canisters of a protein powder loved by Jennifer Aniston are being recalled due to fears they contain plastic shards.

Vital Proteins issued a voluntary recall for its unscented collagen peptide powder, urging customers to immediately throw away affected cans.

The recall notice stated that the containers of collagen peptides were sold in U.S. stores in 20 states between April 17 and 24 and had an expiration date of January 2028.

Consumers can find out if their powder is one of the recalled powders by checking the batch label, which is printed in black lettering just below the barcode on the back of the canister. The batch code for the recalled buses is 30095993HA.

Officials warn that people who unknowingly swallow the plastic shards could suffer cuts or lacerations to their tongue, throat, stomachs and intestines.

Costco warned that “pieces of a blue broken lid may be in one or more jerry cans” in its post announcing the recall.

These had likely gotten into the $29 a can products during the manufacturing process when there was a machine malfunction.

There have been no reports of injuries from the products to date and the risk to consumers is considered ‘low’.

The recalled products were sold in a total of 20 states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Some items were also sold in Puerto Rico.

Costco said, “Do not use products marked with the above batch code and expiration date and return the item to your local Costco for a full refund.”

“This issue does not affect any other Vital Proteins products or code dates. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.’

Vital Proteins is considered one of the most popular protein brands in the US, with sales exceeding $150 million annually.

Jennifer Aniston called it her “go-to” collagen last year and said she always puts it in her morning coffee or smoothie.

She previously said, “I take it on an empty stomach for maximum benefits and kick-start my protein intake for the day.”

“Not only does this help me recover more easily from workouts, but I’ve personally noticed a big difference in my skin, hair, and nails from the Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C in this blend.”

Vital Proteins is also the official collagen of the Chicago Cubs in their home city.

Collagen peptides are not the best proteins for building muscle, but they are claimed to help strengthen hair, nails and skin.

The proteins can also help muscles recover after exercise, with the peptides helping to restore the structure of tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Some users even report looking ‘younger’ after using the products.
