ABC host Virginia Trioli has returned to her slot on morning radio after a lengthy hiatus caused by a “long and complex summer of family illness.”

Trioli returns to ABC Radio Melbourne 774 at 8:30am Monday, more than four months after she last presented her morning radio show.

The presenter spoke out about her return on Sunday, telling fans it had been a “quite a long and difficult time for me and my family” but she was “so happy” to be back.

“It will be wonderful to talk to you all again and there is a lot to talk about,” said the presenter.

My thanks to the wonderful producers and presenters of ABC Melbourne for their intervention and help: as someone very wise told me over the past few weeks – if it’s a choice between work and family and you choose your family, you have that choice made. the right decision.’

In March, the presenter took to Twitter to explain her absence after confused fans wondered when the beloved host would return.

“Some personal news: it’s been a long and complex summer with family illnesses, and my focus must now be on home,” Trioli wrote.

“To my wonderful ABC Melbourne Mornings audience, see you very soon, and many thanks to my ABC colleagues and management for their kindness and support.”

In her absence, there had been suggestions that Trioli would trade her radio appearance for television.

She previously hosted Sunday Arts, Artscape and Q&A with well-placed sources telling the publication that the ABC was developing a new prime-time show for Trioli.

Fans were quick to flood the comments with words of encouragement.

“Raff and your deck crew were great, but those morning boots were made for you. Welcome back!’ one listener wrote.

“My morning is going back to ‘normal’, so glad you’re in and around us again. Now 2023 can start again,” said a second.

“I’m so glad you’re back. It can be difficult to get back to work after a break, so make yourself comfortable. Good luck,” said a third.

“So grateful to have you in our lives. I hope you and your family are blessed with good health, love and happiness. We missed you Virginia,” the fourth wrote.

It comes after fans were left confused in March after Trioli failed to return to her slot on Monday, March 13, despite being announced by stand-in presenter Ali Moore.

Moore promoted Trioli’s return at the beginning and end of her show from the previous Friday, to disappointed fans.

“It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to be with you over the past few months,” Moore told listeners.

“VT is here again in this chair on Monday.”

Many sympathized with Trioli’s interruption and sent messages of support.

“I turned on the radio at 8:30 am, looking forward to hearing you and sad to hear that you have a family illness,” one wrote.

“I hope you are making it through a difficult time. All the best.’

“Wishing you and your precious family all the best and rest assured we are so looking forward to having you back on our radio, but only when the time is right for you and yours,” said another.
