Virgin Australia has shocked passengers on a flight by giving free cruise tickets to flyers who sit in every middle seat after it was branded the worst seat on a plane.

It’s part of the airline’s new “Bring on Wonderful” campaign to reward middle seat travelers with hundreds of prizes worth $230,000 each week.

Middle seat passengers on flights will participate in a weekly lotto with prizes such as premium flights to exotic destinations, cruises, helicopter flights and AFL Grand Final tickets.

A video captured the moment a spokesperson informed passengers on a flight to Adelaide from Melbourne that everyone in the middle seat had won a $6,000 Virgin Voyages cruise.

“Anyone with a middle seat is now the proud winner of a $6,000 Virgin Voyages cruise,” she says into a microphone.

The plane explodes with applause and cheers from passengers and flight attendants, with some confetti sticks waving.

“Now I’m going to say that again because we may have lost a few people,” the spokesperson continued.

“So everyone in the middle seat, all of you, now have a $6,000 voucher on Virgin Voyages.”

‘We will leave Australia at the end of 2023.’

She then congratulated the passengers before handing out the cruise tickets to the winners.

Aisle and window passengers also received 10,000 frequent flyer points.

“And for everyone else on board the plane, we don’t want you to feel left out, so you’ve all deposited 10,000 Velocity Points as your little extra bonus for taking part in this flight,” she added.

Virgin Voyages will launch in Australia for a limited time around early summer next year, until March 2024.

The company’s lead ship, The Resilient Lady, will be stationed in Melbourne and take passengers to destinations across the country.

Cruises last from two to 14 nights.

Virgin Australia’s Bring on Wonderful campaign has prizes worth $230,000 to be won and is designed to encourage passengers to choose the middle seat.

A recent airline survey found that no traveler chose the center seat as their preferred seat on an airplane flight, with 62 percent choosing an aisle seat, 35 percent choosing a window seat and 3 percent saying they didn’t care.

Those wishing to enter the weekly draw must be 18 years of age or older, a Velocity Frequent Flyer member, have entered their flight details into the Virgin app within 48 hours of their flight departure and, most importantly, be seated in the middle seat.

Virgin Australia’s campaign ends on April 23, 2023.
