Virgil van Dijk claims he has ‘FOUR more years at the highest level’ as Liverpool star drops major contract hint – just six days before he can negotiate a transfer with another club
Virgil van Dijk has claimed he still has ‘three or four years’ left at the top level after the Liverpool star dropped a major hint about his contract situation.
Van Dijk, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is one of three Liverpool stars whose current contracts expire at the end of the season.
But before that, in January, the trio of players will be eligible to discuss a free transfer with other clubs as they have less than six months left on their contracts.
While rumors continue to circulate about who will be offered a new contract, Dutch star Van Dijk suggests he could still play at the highest level for a few more years.
Speak with Amazon Primehe said: ‘I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good basis to be successful.
‘As far as I’m concerned, I can at least play at the highest level for another three or four years. We’ll see what the future brings.’

Earlier this month, Van Dijk was offered a new contract, but there was reportedly no breakthrough in negotiations with the 33-year-old.
In the same interview, Van Dijk suggested he has ambitions to become the first Dutch captain to lead his team to the Premier League title.
‘It’s not about me, but I would love to be the first [Dutch player]Van Dijk added. ‘I think it’s there. That is what we are committed to as a team.’
Earlier this week, Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp and Les Ferdinand all had their say on Liverpool’s contract issue.
When Carragher was given the ultimatum to choose one of the three players to stay at Liverpool, he chose Van Dijk.
“I would probably say Van Dijk, but I’m pretty sure Van Dijk and Salah will stay,” said the Liverpool legend.
“The only concern is Trent because of the situation he’s in, but I’m sure the other two will sign.”
Redknapp shared Carragher’s sentiments and said the Dutchman is an irreplaceable colossus in Liverpool’s backline.
‘I would go with Virgil. Yeah, because he’s just imperious and still playing at such a high level, I wouldn’t want to lose any of them,” he said.
‘I think Liverpool always had the opportunity, even though I was there over the years, [to replace superstars].

“Where Rush goes and then Fowler comes, and then Owen comes, and then Torres comes, and Suarez comes, and then Salah.
“It seems like they’re just turning strikers into superstars. So they will find someone. But I just don’t know where in world football you could find someone to replace Virgil.’
Ferdinand’s judgment made the decision unanimous; the former Tottenham striker also highlighted the importance of the 2019 Ballon d’Or runner-up in Liverpool’s defence.
‘The road [Van Dijk] “He is the boss of Liverpool’s backline and with the way he is so calm, he would be the one I would like to keep,” he said.
