Virgil van Dijk was taken off at half time when a furious Jurgen Klopp made a half-time triple substitution while trailing 2-0 at Brentford on Monday.

It was a chaotic first half for the Reds, in which they conceded an Ibrahima Konate own goal and then a Yoane Wissa goal for the Bees.

Klopp was unimpressed through the first 45 minutes and made a trio of substitutions, including removing 31-year-old captain van Dijk.

On the Liverpool captain, Carragher added: “It will be interesting to see if it is an injury or if he has just come off because he has struggled.

Jurgen Klopp’s additions in the second half included Andrew Robertson, Naby Keita and Joel Matip.
