Viral YouTube video that’s ‘scarier than any horror movie’ celebrates 17th anniversary

‘I STILL use this to prank people’ Viral YouTube jump scare video celebrates 17th birthday – and people say it’s ‘scarier than any horror movie’

One of YouTube’s first viral videos has been described by viewers as “scarier than any horror movie” as it celebrates its 17th anniversary on the platform.

The clip has been viewed more than 38 million times and garnered 12,000 comments since it was uploaded to YouTube in 2006.

The 20-second video begins with a car driving down a picturesque country road with soothing music playing in the background.

However, the video – which is called ‘Ghost Car’ – takes a dark turn as the car makes a turn at the bottom of the road.

After giving viewers a false sense of security, a zombie appears on screen out of nowhere and starts screaming.

The video – which was developed by a German company to promote an energy drink – has been viewed more than 38 million times on YouTube

The video then flashes to a black screen that reads, “Now… put on your shorts and get back to work!”

The clip was developed in 2005 to promote a German energy drink called K-fee.

The viral jump scare was supposed to illustrate the effects of their product, which has since been discontinued.

For the past 17 years, YouTube users have left comments on the video describing how it haunts them to this day.

Earlier this year, one of them replied, “17 years old and it’s still got me.”

“I’m still scared of this video to this day,” added another.

“This is rightly scarier than any horror movie I’ve seen,” a third wrote in 2021.

Meanwhile, a fourth recently said, “I’ll never forget the day my friend told me to watch this ‘funny’ video.”

In addition, other viewers turned their attention to the anonymous user who never uploaded anything else on his YouTube channel.

A fifth asked, “Does this guy know he uploaded one of the most iconic videos ever?”

A sixth said, ‘You know it’s a classic when it was uploaded sometime in 2005-2008. it’s the only video on the channel, the profile picture of the channel is the video. it has a short title, it takes less than a minute.’

“17 years later I’m still teasing people with this video and it’s still effective,” wrote a seventh. “That lets you know this has held up amazingly well!”

Earlier this year, Twitter user @georainbolt searched Google Maps to try to find where the video was shot – before settling on a road in California.
