Viral video shows Wally Lewis losing his mind as Maroons seal their miraculous Origin victory – as the Queensland legend celebrates so hard he hit his head on the ceiling

  • Wally Lewis was clearly delighted with the Maroons victory over Origin
  • Images showed how the ‘King’ literally touched the roof
  • Regarded as Queensland’s greatest ever player in the arena

Maroon legend Wally Lewis owned the State of Origin arena in his playing days – and it seems his enthusiasm for big moments hasn’t changed now that he’s a commentator rather than the team’s biggest star.

The ‘King’ worked for Channel 9 on Wednesday night and footage has surfaced of Queensland’s favorite son getting very animated at Adelaide Oval.

So much so that Lewis banged his head against a wall as the party gathered momentum.

A late effort from Cameron Munster secured an impressive 26-18 win for Billy Slater’s men – and Lewis was delighted.

Speaking to TV colleague Alison Ariotti, Lewis praised the never-say-that attitude of the stars who have followed in his footsteps.

Maroons legend Wally Lewis owned the State of Origin arena in his playing days – and his excitement about big moments just as much hasn’t changed now that he’s in commentary

Lewis was elated after Queensland produced another Origin miracle on Wednesday

“I was excited, Queensland had just made a stunning comeback to take the result,” he said.

“I felt pretty good about it… and didn’t realize there was a camera pointed at me.

“At one point I hit my head against the side of the roof… and I was the only one celebrating, the other commentators cheered the Blues.”

Lewis added that the playing group ‘knew they had achieved something special’ after the Blues took an 18-16 lead with just 12 minutes remaining.

And when prop Tom Flegler was thrown into sin moments later, a victory for the Maroons seemed almost impossible.

But as they’ve done with NSW fans for years, Queensland broke their hearts to take the upper hand on June 21 leading up to game two at Suncorp Stadium.

Under pressure, Blues coach Brad Fittler will be tempted to make some team changes, with Jarome Luai, Tom Trbojevic and Hudson Young likely to fall victim.

If Queensland wins on home soil, Fittler will likely have coached his last game for NSW.
