  • Vinicius has established himself as a key figure for Real and was handed the number 7 shirt

Vinicius Junior has reportedly signed a new contract with Real Madrid that runs until 2027.

The winger’s new deal includes a €1bn (£856m) release clause, which aims to prevent Saudi Arabian clubs from trying to sign him, as reported by IF.

It has been a lengthy process to get the Brazil international to sign a new contract, with talks first taking place in September last year.

However, the 22-year-old remains with Real, where he has established himself as a hugely important player.

Since signing Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has made 225 appearances for Real, scoring 59 goals while providing 64 assists.

Vinicius scored the winner against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final, as well as winning the LaLiga title twice and the Copa del Rey once.

On the international stage, he has been capped 23 times by Brazil and has scored three goals.

After the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad, Vinicius is now likely to have even more responsibility at Real.

Vinicius’ stature at the club was reflected by his recently being given the number 7 shirt following the departure of Eden Hazard.

Real Madrid have already signed Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in a high-profile deal, while striker Joselu has joined Espanyol on loan.
