Vincent Kompany has identified a Liverpool defender as one of his top targets at Bayern Munich this summer, according to reports.
The ex-Manchester City captain’s shock appointment as the new manager of Bayern Munich was announced at the end of last month, with Kompany joining the Bundesliga giants just after being relegated from the Premier League with Burnley.
Bayern, who were attracted to Kompany because of his impressive coaching philosophy, are set for a major summer overhaul ahead of next season after failing to lift a single trophy last season, with Bayer Leverkusen going unbeaten under Xabi Alonso Bundesliga crown won.
According to the MirrorKompany is keen to sign Liverpool and England star Joe Gomez this summer, with Bayern seeing defense as a key area for improvement.
Gomez, who is currently preparing for England’s 2024 European Championship campaign in Germany, enjoyed a prolific season under Jurgen Klopp last season, making 51 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions.

Liverpool, who handed Gomez a new five-year contract in 2022, will issue a firm warning to the Bundesliga side, who are reportedly impressed by the 27-year-old’s ability to play in a variety of positions.
Compatriot Levi Colwill of Chelsea is also believed to be on Bayern Munich’s radar, but the west London club are not open to selling him at this stage.
Colwill and Gomez are both ready for a fresh start at their respective clubs, with Enzo Maresca taking over as Chelsea boss and Arne Slot taking charge at Anfield following Klopp’s departure last season.
Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah is the latest defender on Bayern Munich’s shortlist. The German impressed during his side’s Bundesliga win last season.

As part of the summer rebuild, Bayern are open to selling six players during the transfer window, with Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Kimmich at the top of the list.
Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Noussair Mazraoui are the other four reportedly on the chopping block in Bavaria.
