Vincent Kompany is a surprise contender for the vacant Chelsea managerial role, with the promotion-winning Burnley coach one of four names shortlisted by the west London club.
Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann was said to be the leading candidate after meeting Chelsea’s co-sports directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart in London last Thursday.
In a twist that could surprise Blues fans, former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the third named candidate that co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are considering to take over at Stamford Bridge.
There would also be an undisclosed fourth candidate in the running to replace Graham Potter as Chelsea’s next permanent head coach.
Kompany is stunned to return to English soil after a two-year stint as manager of Belgian outlet center Anderlecht.

Chelsea have scored two fewer goals this season than Erling Haaland’s individual effort in the Premier League.
