Vietnam 0-7 Netherlands: Andries Jonker’s team records the biggest win at the Women’s World Cup to date, while Esmee Brugts and Jill Roord scored a seven-goal victory in doubles
Esmee Brugts scored two long-range contenders as the Netherlands rediscovered their goal-scoring prowess in a landslide 7-0 victory over Vietnam on Tuesday, reaching the Women’s World Cup knockouts in style and securing first place in Group E on goal difference.
The Dutch had only scored once in each of their two previous matches, but knowing that goal difference could decide the group winner, they were 4-0 up within 25 minutes, with Brugts’ curled effort the cream of the crop.
Her second goal in the 57th minute was a copy of the first to put the Netherlands ahead 6–0 before Jill Roord also grabbed her second of the night to complete the emphatic win, the tournament’s biggest to date.
The Netherlands, who were expected to finish behind the United States in the group, travel to Sydney on Sunday for their last-16 draw and are likely to face Italy, who are second behind Sweden in Group G.
It was Lieke Martins who opened the scoring for Andries Jonker’s side after eight minutes, before Katja Snoeijs doubled the lead three minutes later.

Brugts and Roord added two more for Holland within the next 12 minutes, and they went 5–0 down at half time as Danielle van de Donk tapped into an empty net on the stroke of half time.
Brugts and Roord then each scored their second of the game after the break to complete a huge 7-0 win.
And after Portugal’s 0-0 draw against the United States, this means that the Netherlands will enter the knockout phase as the winner of group E.
