A VietJet plane has been returned to Australia after a passenger suffered a medical emergency en route to Ho Chi Minh City.
Flight VJC92 had only been in the air for an hour before making a U-turn near Carnarvon on the coast of Western Australia after taking off at 10.30am local time.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will land in Perth around 1pm local time, with paramedics already waiting on the tarmac.
A Perth Airport spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the diversion was due to a medical emergency on board, but could not comment until the plane had landed.
The spokesperson said the same aircraft would likely return to its original route once the situation was under control.
The connection between the two cities was launched by VietJet on November 21 last year with two return flights per week.
This was later upgraded to four flights per week and competitor Vietnam Airlines followed with three flights per week.
The six and a half hour non-stop flight is operated by both companies using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
