Video shows single mother Leonia Picone being run over and killed by a truck while teaching her son to drive L plates
Disturbing footage has emerged of when a mother teaching her teenage son to drive was run over and killed by a truck.
Leonia Picone, 55, was with her son, 17, driving her Ford Mondeo at Wetherill Park, western Sydney, around 6.30am on Wednesday.
The car was approaching the junction of Cowpasture Rd on Horsley Dr when a The truck hit the back of the vehicle, prompting Mrs. Picone’s son to pull over.
The video shows Mrs. Picone getting out of her car and standing in front of the truck to get the driver’s attention before it accelerates and runs her over.
Ms Picone’s son, who had also left the Mondeo, was only meters away from the horror incident and watched as his mother was hit.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection after Ms Picone reported the minor collision.
Paramedics tried to save the mother’s life, but she could not be brought back to life.
“It’s absolutely appalling for the family,” said NSW Police Inspector Josh Dixon.
“The pedestrian was on the road trying to get the attention of the driver of that vehicle.”
Ms Picone’s son was treated for shock at the scene but was otherwise unharmed.
Traffic was halted for several hours after the incident.
The lorry driver, 51, who parked 150 yards away, was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
He is questioned by the police, but no charges have been filed.

Later on Wednesday, Ms Picone’s family gathered on site to pay tribute.
Her sister Ronelle Cameron was too angry to comment, but her brother-in-law Kevin Cameron described her as a “good mother” who took care of her parents, the Daily telegram reported.
Residents say the major intersection where the tragedy occurred is inconvenient.
A crime scene has been set up and will be investigated by specialist agents from the Crash Investigation Unit.
A report will be prepared for the coroner’s information.
