Startling video showed the moment a woman left a baby girl on a Bronx sidewalk before disappearing.
Surveillance footage captured the hooded woman wearing light pants, white sneakers, a dark winter coat and a black face mask as she placed the child outside a home on Reverend James Polite Avenue in Longwood around 5:39 a.m. Sunday.
The unidentified woman carried the baby in a green reusable shopping bag as they walked along the sidewalk.
She then stopped in front of several houses before turning around, opening a gate and leaving the scene without the bag in hand.
Mamadou Hafiz Jallow, the homeowner, then received a call from a neighbor reporting a baby crying outside shortly after he left his house that morning.
Jallow told his neighbor to call 911 as he rushed back, thinking “let me figure it out because this is sensitive,” he told DailyMail.com.
When he arrived, he saw the green bag at his door, looked inside and saw the naked girl wrapped in pink and white blankets.
‘I was scared. Felt compassionate. Sorry about the kid,” Jallow recalled, adding that he quickly brought the abandoned baby inside and called the police again.

Surveillance footage showed her walking along the sidewalk before turning around and leaving the baby girl on Mamadou Hafiz Jallow’s doorstep.
Around 6:05 a.m., NYPD officers responded to his home. Jallow said they stayed there for a while until the doctors came to take the baby to the hospital.
The homeowner said he believed the girl was only a few days old. News12 The Bronx reported.
The abandoned child was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition and is expected to survive.
She is currently being cared for by hospital staff while the NYPD tries to locate the woman who abandoned her.
Although he was scared at the time, Jallow said, “At the same time, I’m glad I saved her life. I just want the baby to be safe.”
Distraught residents of the area were also left in disbelief by the shocking discovery, one man said Fox 5: “I don’t understand how anyone is going to do that.”
“It’s very disturbing to hear that this is even a thing for this neighborhood,” another woman told the outlet.
Jallow was notified by a neighbor that the baby was outside his home after they heard the child crying. He then took the child inside and called 911 again

Donnell Warden, another of Jallow’s neighbors, said the whole situation was “very upsetting.”
“If the mother didn’t want the child, or whatever the circumstances were, you would think they would either give it to the other side of the family or would be better off giving it to the police or something,” said director, a father. of four, said.
In New York State, a parent can give up an unwanted baby for up to 30 days without being charged a fee Abandoned Child Protection Act.
The adult would not be charged with vomiting a baby if he does so in a safe place, including a hospital, police department or fire station.
They are also “not required by law to give his or her name” if they do so.
No arrests were made Monday and the investigation remains ongoing. The NYPD has urged the public to report any information regarding the incident.
