Video shows man brutally beaten by a mob of bicyclists in downtown Los Angeles

Horrifying video shows the moment when a mob of bikers attacked and brutally beat a man in broad daylight in downtown Los Angeles.

The incident occurred when a man driving a white pickup got out of his vehicle and was immediately attacked by a group of four young men on LA’s Hill Street on May 18.

The video shows the man being repeatedly knocked down, kicked and stomped outside as bystanders gather and try to stop the attack.

What led to the violent altercation is unknown, but one person told KTLA that the man in the truck honked at the group of cyclists serving in and out of traffic.

Another person said the man in the white truck hit one of the young men on the bikes and they cut him off and lured him out of the vehicle.

Police say the incident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Hill Street and 6th Street in LA’s jewelry district.

The man who videotaped the attack said he was working on the 13th floor of a nearby building when he heard rumbles of something happening in the street.

He told KTLA that he ran to the window and saw the violent altercation, with one of the attackers smashing the driver’s windows with a bicycle handle.

“It was horrible,” said the witness, identified only as Gary.

“When I got to the window, I probably saw six or seven kids on bicycles. There was a white pick-up parked in front of the door and I saw someone smash the window with his bicycle,” he continued.

In the shocking video, the unknown man who was attacked falls to the ground as the four young assailants kick and push him, screaming.

Gary said bystanders who were nearby rushed to the man’s aid and broke up the fight after several minutes of the loud and physical incident.

The driver eventually left, taking a moment to jump into his truck and flee the group.

“I’m glad people helped out on the street because they gave him a number,” Gary said. “I know he immediately regretted his decision to get out of his vehicle.”

After the man in the truck left the crime scene, witnesses told local media that the group of men continued to swerve in and out of traffic on their bicycles.

Video from the group shows several additional people joining the joy ride in the middle of the street, blocking traffic on both sides.

The exact cause of the brutal beating is still under investigation, but several Gary said he believes the victim hit one of the bikers and tried to drive away.

He claims the driver got stuck in traffic and the group found him.

“Then they were able to catch up to him, banging on his windows, banging on his truck and then he stopped and jumped out and he got [beaten],’ said Gary.

Another jeweler told KTLA that the bikers were participating in dangerous street activities and that the driver of the white pickup had honked at them after they were cut off.

“You feel for him, but things like this have been happening so often here lately that you’re starting to feel a little desensitized,” said Roman Kim, a bystander.

According to LAPD data, the number of traffic accidents has increased significantly year over year.

The number of incidents in 2022 was 30 percent higher than in 2018 and 2019.

“It’s horrible that people act the way they are,” Gary said ABC 7.

“I’m not going to say it’s justifiable, it was a bad situation. They’ve made the block look bad, it’s made the city look bad… Let’s hope people here can maybe try to calm down so we can do better business,” he said.

LAPD confirmed to KTLA on Friday that they are aware of the incident.

Police said they received calls from up to 10 men on bicycles ranging from 15 to 18 years old.

When they arrived on the scene, the group had disintegrated.

On Saturday, LAPD Central Division released a statement saying it was aware of the video circulating but said no one had officially reported a crime.
