An inmate with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department attempted a less-than-sophisticated escape on a Southern California freeway over the weekend.
Video of the incident shared on Sunday by ABC 7 shows the moments when the man tries to get out of the window of a police car on the highway.
The unidentified inmate barely screeches through the window before slamming into the middle of the road.
An officer in the passenger seat quickly jumps out and grabs the handcuffed suspect before the man can flee.
The escape attempt took place Saturday night in Southern California.
The incident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on December 30 on Interstate 5 in Newhall.
Authorities told the local outlet that the inmate was being transferred at the time.
The patrol was located near the Calgrove Boulevard exit ramp at the time of the incident.

Authorities told ABC 7 that the man had kicked in the window but was still handcuffed during the escape attempt.
