Video shows homeless woman attempting to stab girl walking to school in South Los Angeles
Video shows the shocking moment when a Good Samaritan stepped in to save a young girl walking to school in Los Angeles when a homeless woman attacked her.
John Irias saw the violent interaction taking place and ran in to help her before finally being stabbed by the woman who was holding a box cutter.
The attack occurred on May 26 in South Los Angeles just before 8 a.m., with the woman, unprovoked, striking at the girl with a punch that knocked her down.
“I saw the homeless person passing me hit the little girl in the face,” Irias said KTLA, saying he took action. “Then I ran over to help.”
The man said he was thinking about his own daughter and knew he had to act.
‘There should be more people who stand up to criminals,’ Irias believes.

The attack occurred on May 26 in South Los Angeles just before 8 a.m., with the woman, unprovoked, striking at the girl with a punch that knocked her down.
“There should be more people standing up to criminals,” said John Irias
In an interview with FOS 11Irias said the woman who assaulted the young girl yelled abuse at the young girl during the attack.
She yelled racial insults. She said like ‘I’m tired of you Spanish people,'” he said of the homeless attacker.
“It was just a random attack, just a hateful crime. Luckily I was wearing my glasses and when she cut my face my glasses helped save my eyeballs,” he said.
The video shows the young girl peacefully walking down the street with her backpack, as the homeless woman waves to her.
The blow knocked the girl onto the sidewalk and out of view of the camera.
Fortunately, Irias said he could still see what was happening and get run over.
The video shows Irias running towards her and pushing the attacker away from the girl. He was able to stop the woman until the police arrived.
In the meantime, however, he suffered a large cut on his face from box cutters.
“The homeless person proceeded to get a gun and before I could figure out what that was I went for a takedown and got punched in the face,” he said.
Victor Camarena, a friend of Irias who was across the street, heard the commotion and ran to help him.
“By then, John will already have the suspect over,” Camarena told KTLA.
He gushes blood from the side of his face and asks me if it’s bad. I’m like, “It’s pretty bad, man,” the bystander said of the injury Irias suffered.

The homeless woman was arrested by the LAPD. The young girl was not injured in the attack and continued to walk to school after the incident, Irias said
Fortunately, Irias was in the right place at the right time, he and Camarena said.
“If everything hadn’t gone the way it did that morning, from the fact that he was late to my house, from the fact that I couldn’t find my car keys, God knows what could have happened to that little girl,” Camarena said . .
“He’s a hero,” the bystander continued. Camarena also said Irias needed stitches.
Irias said the girl didn’t look hurt and continued on her way to school.
The homeless woman was arrested by the LAPD. It is not known whether a complaint has been filed.
