Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday offered his condolences to Britain’s Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak over the party’s recent election defeat, saying that victories and setbacks are inevitable parts of democracy and “we have to accept both”.
In his letter to Sunak, Gandhi praised the former British Prime Minister’s dedication to public service and his commitment to the British people.
“I would like to express my condolences on the recent election results. Victories and setbacks both are an inevitable part of the journey in a democracy and we have to take both in our stride,” the Congress leader said.
“Your dedication to public service and your commitment to your people are commendable. I also greatly appreciate the efforts you have made to strengthen India-UK ties during your tenure,” he said.
Gandhi expressed confidence that Sunak would continue to contribute to public life with his experience. “I wish you all the best in your future endeavours,” the former Congress leader said.
