Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returns as a ‘renewed’ feature film

Just months after announcing that their legendary runway show would be making a comeback, Victoria’s Secret has now revealed how they plan to revive their runway presence.

The iconic lingerie company has announced Victoria’s Secret World Tour 2023, a feature film that “re-imagines” the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and focuses on “emerging global pioneers” who create and showcase their own creations alongside custom USA designs.

The ‘reimagined show’ will be streamed internationally and will conclude with a live fashion event in the fall of 2023.

The VS fashion show was canceled four years ago after the brand adopted a more inclusive image, but executives recently revealed they planned to bring it back this year.

In a press release, the brand stated that the film will “unite fashion, film, art and culture with dynamic international creatives, top supermodels, musical talent and more.”

The film will focus on “emerging global pioneers from a range of artistic disciplines, creating on their own terms.”

It will follow the “VS20,” “a group of 20 innovative global creatives who will come up with four fashion curations from the vibrant cities of Bogota, Lagos, London and Tokyo.”

The VS20, who have been given the creative freedom to ‘conceptualise, produce and present’ a collection of their own vision, will all come together to showcase their creations alongside other custom designs from the brand.

“This film is the ultimate expression of Victoria’s Secret’s brand transformation. It will be driven by fashion, glamor and entertainment with a nod to beloved iconography of the past, but in a bold, redefined way,” said Raúl Martinez, EVP and Head Creative Director at Victoria’s Secret.

“We are so honored to offer our platform and explore it through the lens and artistry of global creatives who celebrate the individuality of women’s stories and perspectives.”

Chris Rupp, Chief Customer Officer at Victoria’s Secret & Co, said: ‘We are delighted to introduce a completely redesigned version of the runway show while bringing back the very best in entertainment and fashion our customers have been asking for. We are celebrating the brand’s iconic heritage with a new generation of artists and can’t wait to amplify their vision through our global platform.”

The brand also released a video announcing the world tour and teasing “something really exciting” along the way. It seemed to introduce some of the faces that will be seen in the film.

It all comes a few months after it was announced that the fashion show would make a comeback this year.

The news was first reported by Retail dive after the company’s fourth quarter of 2022 call income.

“We will continue to lean on the marketing spend to invest in the business, both at the top of the funnel and also to support the new version of our fashion show, which will take place later this year,” chief financial agent Timothy Johnson revealed.

The annual fashion show was a glamorous tradition dating back to 1995.

The televised catwalk not only featured scantily clad models, but also featured performances by musical guests including Bebe Rexha, Halsey, Rita Ora, Kelsea Ballerini, Shawn Mendes and more during the final show in 2018.

The company canceled the show and dropped the Victoria’s Secret Angel title in 2019 amid criticism that the brand was not including models of all shapes and backgrounds.

Purchases by women aged 18 to 49 had been declining for several years prior to the move.

A scathing article from 2020 in The New York Times including allegations of misogyny, bullying and harassment by former Chief Marketing Officer Ed Razek.

It also raised concerns about L Brands Chief Executive Leslie Wexner’s longstanding friendship with convicted felon Jeffrey Epstein prior to his death in prison.

Epstein was awaiting trial at the time on charges of underage sex trafficking.

The 2022 Hulu Documentary, Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demonscontinued to focus the microscope on the corporate culture of the lingerie brand.

The three-part series contained claims of body shaming, misogyny and discomfort that the PINK line, which was aimed at teens and teens, made girls feel bad about themselves.

Victoria’s Secret was separated from its parent company in 2021.

It is now looking to regain its reputation and its grip on its corner of the lucrative intimate market.

They now have models of all backgrounds and sizes.

Tennis great Naomi Osaka, 25, has also collaborated with the designers on a collection of comfortable sleepwear and intimate wear.

That said the Grand Slam champion, who is expecting her first child Fashion it was the new commitment to inclusion that led her to come on board.

“Basically speaking to everyone at Victoria’s Secret and seeing how inclusive it was… I remember arguing with them about how I’d never seen anyone in their stores who looked like me.”

“I thought it would be really great to change the view,” she said.

Victoria’s Secret has faced competition from famous brands, such as Lizzo’s Yitty brand, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty, and Kim Kardashian’s Skims.
