Popular skin clinic beloved by celebrities is forced to close down

Australia’s high interest and inflation costs have claimed another victim with the closure of a popular beauty clinic loved by celebrities including TV presenter Georgia Love.

After nine years in business on Melbourne’s Greville Street, eyebrow, skin and makeup experts Victoria Jade closed its doors on Monday.

But the good news is that Ms Jade will continue to trade elsewhere. β€œIt’s just a downsizing, a bit of a restructuring and rebranding really,” she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘It has been a very difficult year for small businesses. And with all the overhead costs and expenses on rent and wages, it’s just not feasible for my business anymore.

β€œI was in a position where I was working to pay everyone but myself,” she said.

Ms Jade said that while she still has a very loyal following, business has slowed down over the past 12 months.

‘It occurs in many sectors. So I decided to scale back, and as a single mom it was time to set my priorities,” she said.

β€œI think one of the biggest killers has been the cost of living (which led to) a decline in customer base and spending.’

She also found that people sought out beauty treatments less often than before.

β€œEven if people could get it done, they could put it off even longer and do it every two or three months instead of every month.

β€œOr wait until they go on vacation or something. People have different priorities, and certain people stop spending in certain areas.”

Mrs. Jade knew what that was like, as she had also cut back on her own expenses.

“I’ve stopped spending money on eating out and buying clothes, but some people don’t spend on beauty anymore.”

She was encouraged, although a host of supportive messages were left on her Instagram page when she announced the closure.

β€œI started this business on my own in a small room and it’s probably been one of the hardest decisions of my life to make, but it’s one of those things where you kind of have to prioritize yourself and put yourself forward what’s important,” she said.

Ms. Jade’s next step is to rent space from a friend who has opened her own salon.

“I’m just going to rent a chair again and work there and just take care of all my old, original, regular customers that I’ve been seeing for years and years.”

Those clients included celebrities such as Ms Love, former international swimmer Giaan Rooney and former Aussie Rules player Abbey Holmes.

β€œIt’s a bit of a soft launch at the moment. I’ll be there until the end of the year anyway,” Ms. Jade said.

On social media, she told her clients that their “loyalty means more to us than you might believe.”

The good vibes went both ways, with one commenter saying they had “so much love for you and all your girls, so many memories!”

“I loved watching you evolve from the small beauty room to taking over the entire space.”

Another wrote: ‘You must be so proud of everything you have achieved. I’m excited for you and your next chapter.”

A third said it had been an ‘incredible nine years and so many more to come’.
