‘A few months before we met, I was abroad with the England team. Gary Neville and I were in the hotel room and a Spice Girls video came on.
“I think it was Say You’ll Be There. I pointed at the screen and told him, “That’s the girl for me and I’m going to get her.”
‘It was her eyes, her face. She is my idea of perfection.”
Victoria shared a similar insight, saying, “I had my eye on David long before we met.
‘I remember doing an interview for a football magazine and they showed me pictures of different footballers.
“I had no idea who he was, but I remember thinking one word: Beautiful.”
David and Victoria first met in 1997 when she came to watch him at a Manchester United football match and he said ‘hello from across the room’.
Victoria recalled the meeting in a letter to her 18-year-old self in Vogue, writing: ‘While the other footballers are standing at the bar drinking with their friends, you see David standing to the side with his family.
“(He’s not even in the first team right now – you’re the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile. You are close to your family too, and you will think how similar he feels to you.”

Meanwhile, David also recounted the sweet moment during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show: ‘She came to a football game – a soccer game – and I said ‘hi’ from across the room and that was it.

Shortly after their first meeting, the couple went on their first date and they became inseparable.
Just months before the couple became Mr. and Mrs. Beckham, David and Victoria welcomed their first child together, son Brooklyn.

In 2017, David also shared that it took years for him to discover what he loved most about his wife.
On James Corden’s This Life Of Mine podcast, he said: ‘Yes, she’s beautiful and yes, she’s sexy, but I like that she works hard. We have been together for 27 years and we recently said to each other that we actually quite like each other.
‘It’s important, after so many years together.
“We can still eat together, laugh and joke, or say nothing at all. That’s the most important thing in a relationship.
‘Having quiet moments with my wife, my children and my family is where I am happiest.’
The Beckhams cleverly transformed their beloved family into an ever-expanding business and real estate empire.

‘And laugh at each other. That’s what it takes to be happy. I really believe in laughter, family and friendship. I realize that we have become an example. People like to see relationships that last a long time.’
