You won’t believe what this ‘unique’ home is made of – and it’s worth $4MILLION more than the median price for the area
A sprawling home in rural Victoria will sell for $4.9 million thanks to its incredible countryside views and unique eco-friendly features.
The main building, affectionately called ‘Wombat Hill Farm’, is a ‘sustainability showpiece’ designed by zero-waste architect Joost Bakker, with elevated views of the countryside of Mount Franklin, Mount Tarrengower, Musk and beyond.
The average property price in Daylesford is $875,000, making Wombat Hill’s high asking price particularly notable.
The house is made with 100 percent recyclable materials, including a repurposed shipping container for the wet areas such as the bathrooms, laundry room and kitchen.
“You could tear the house down and reuse all the materials if you wanted to,” property manager Annette Leary told FEMAIL.
The Daylesford estate is set in 3.4 hectares of land and is set at the foot of a winding driveway lined with ornamental pear trees.

It includes a 100-tree orchard, a bee farm, nine raised vegetable boxes, a paved patio and recycled steps sourced from the old Ford factories in South Australia.
Wombat Hill Farm is unprecedented in that it offers residents a sense of privacy away from the hustle and bustle of the city due to its acreage, yet it is still only a five minute walk from town with a variety of restaurants and shops to choose from.
The house is built with locally sourced straw bales, pine planks, recycled bricks and steel.
The kitchen, dining and living areas are adorned with double French doors.

With a generous dining area that seats 12 and a huge living space divided into two using a double-opening Cheminees Philippe wood fire, Wombat Hill Farm is a dinner host’s dream come true.
The main house has three rooms and the master has a walk-in wardrobe with two double glazed doors providing access to the farmland.
The other bedrooms also have access to the gardens with luxurious views of the estate.

“Wombat Hill is completely surrounded by vines,” Ms Leary said.
‘In the summer the vine thickens and keeps out the heat. In the colder months the leaves fall and immerse the environment in warm autumn tones, which also brings the winter sun into the house.’
The garden features bearded irises, succulents, agapanthus, natives and drought-resistant exotics, all designed to promote bird life and bees.
The orchard contains plum, apricot, apple, pear, peach, olive and quince trees.
In addition to the main building, Wombat Hill also has a separate, standalone building called the Silver Building

Ms Leary revealed the current owners bought the space seven years ago and built the extension shortly afterwards.
The creative couple wanted some extra space for visitors, so a studio with a fully functioning kitchen was built in, along with two separate bedrooms and adjoining bathrooms.
