Victor Wembanyama’s agent believes adding weight to his frame would be a ‘huge mistake’

Victor Wembanyama’s agent claims the 7-foot-4 rookie adding weight to his frame would be a ‘massive mistake’ – as he reveals the Spurs rookie wants to follow Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s ‘path’

San Antonio Spurs No. 1 overall choice Victor Wembanyama is not focused on lifting weights to make his slim body bigger, according to his agent Bouna Ndiaye.

During a interview with NBA insider Marc J. SpearsNdiaye stated that he thought adding weight would be a ‘big mistake’ for Wembanyama.

“Did you see a problem here in Vegas? No. People are wrong. We are not focused on weights at all. I don’t want to burden his body,’ Ndiaye said.

“We are going to fight not to put any strain on his body. Weight on his body [is] a big mistake. We focus on strength, core. We were very happy that he joined [with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] who played until [41] years old. That is the path we want to take.

“I’m really glad they’re in touch, because they have a similar body type. Kareem wasn’t heavy.’

“Victor is more mobile, showier and taller than Kareem,” he added. ‘So that height difference is a challenge and we deal with that every day. Make him heavy? We don’t want that.’

Wembanyama’s performances in his two summer league matches produced a sack of very mixed results after his first match left viewers concerned he could become another overhyped bust, while his second match showed the signs of dominance many expected to see from the 19 years old.

He finished his first game with nine points on 2-13 shooting, eight rebounds, five blocks, three assists and three turnovers in 27 minutes.

“Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the pitch today, but I’m going to learn for the next game and be ready for the season,” he said after the extremely disappointing summer debut.

In his second game, he rebounded to record 27 points and 12 rebounds before being eliminated by the team for the rest of the summer.

The six-foot-tall man also stated that he planned to ‘disappear’ until the start of the season after facing large amounts of media attention leading up to the draft and following the recent incident with his guard and Britney Spears.
