Metta Sandiford-Artest, formerly known as both Ron Artest and Metta World Peace, said this week that Victor Wembanyama will score 101 points in a match in the coming years.
“He's the closest thing to Wilt (Chamberlain) that we'll ever see,” Sandiford-Artest said. “… He'll face like a Detroit Pistons of this year, or the Clippers of 20 years ago, and he'll hit 101 sometime in the next seven years.”
Sandiford-Artest refers to the NBA single-game scoring record, which Chamberlain set at 100 points in March 1962.
Chamberlain went 36-for-63 from the field and made 28 of 32 free throws to complete the only triple-digit individual scoring game in NBA history.
Now Sandiford-Artest predicts that one of sports' most unbreakable records will fall by the end of the 2030-2031 season.
Victor Wembanyama has Hall-of-Fame-or-bust expectations as star-studded Spurs rookie
Metta Sandiford-Artest makes the bold prediction that Wembanyama will score 101 points in a match
No other game comes close to the victory of the Philadelphia Warriors (169-147) over the New York Knicks.
Second on the single-game all-time scoring list is the late Kobe Bryant's 81-point performance in January 2006. Only 13 single-game attempts have crossed the 70-point threshold in NBA history.
It's a bold statement from the longtime NBA star considering Wembanyama is averaging just under 19 points per game in his rookie season.
The promise for the 2.5 meter long center is skyrocketing. But 101 in one game? That's 63 points more than his career high!
Wembanyama is only averaging 18.9 points per game in his first season with San Antonio
Sandiford-Artest believes Wembanyama will face a bad rookie on a bad team.
And that team doesn't have the necessary pieces to stop him from attempting such a large number of shots where it's even possible to come within striking distance of a 100-point game.
We're a few days into 2024 and this could be one of the most daring shots of the year.
