The first overall picks in the NHL and NBA first met in Chicago when Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs was introduced to Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Both players have been described as once-in-a-generation talents – with the 7ft 11in Wembanyama's freakish height and great scoring ability heralded as much as the 6ft 2in Bedard's speed and skill.

With Wembanyama taking on the Bulls in Chicago, the meeting was set up between the top two picks in their sport's respective 2023 drafts.

Wemby attempted to shoot the puck and take a face-off, with Bedard also present to give pointers.

In a clip of an interview that aired with the NHL, the Blackhawks gave a preview of what to expect in a sit-down between the two athletes.

Before playing against the Chicago Bulls, Wembanyama tried his hand at hockey with the help of Bedard

“I don't know much about hockey,” Wembanyama admitted to Bedard, “I did some reading before I came here.

'You are at the beginning of your career. I had heard of you a lot before. I just started learning a bit more, it's great. Congratulations.'

Bedard told Wembanyama: “I followed it [you] a lot' before asking the Frenchman if he's ever seen a hockey game before.

'Full game? No, but I like it when people just start fighting. It just looks out of this world.”

Wembanyama then asked if there is constant fighting, to which the Canadian replied: “Probably not now, if you look at the 80s and stuff, it's ten times a game. Pretty crazy. But I know, I don't know, maybe every other match.'

The two rookies lead the rest of their class this season and have achieved top scores so far.

But in Thursday night's game against the Bulls, Wembanyama shot the ball as well as the puck with Bedard – going 3-for-8 from the field.
