Victor Wembanyama has officially signed up for the 2023 NBA Draft, confirming his place as the likely No. 1 in June.

The Pistons, Spurs, Rockets and Hornets are currently the most likely to land him in the lottery, which takes place on May 16, and the 7-foot-4 French phenomenon may be the most touted prospect since LeBron James.

He currently plays his basketball at Metropolitans 92 in his native France and confirmed his draft news on ESPN on Friday afternoon.

“It’s been a year of so much good news for me, so first of all I want to thank everyone who has been a part of that journey over the years, my coaches, my family,” he began his announcement.

And I’m very excited to announce that I’m going to report for the 2023 NBA Draft. So I hope it’s big news.’

The massive center has a feather-light shooting feel and strong ball control, dominating the French league at just 19 years old.

This year, he has averaged 21.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.1 blocks and 2.3 assists per game and has played 47 consecutive games in all competitions since September.

On the American side, Wembanyama also made a huge impact when his team played a few exhibition games against G League Ignite – the team of likely No. 2 Scoot Henderson.

In those games, Wembanyama showed the ability to make teams drool over him, scoring 73 points in both games.

“Declaring the design … it’s something crazy that I don’t realize yet,” he said ESPN.

“I realized quite young that I wanted to play in the NBA, but it’s becoming more reality every day. I am so lucky to have this dream at my fingertips.”

Before he even played a game in the NBA, the hype around the French prospect was huge in the US.

The NBA has streamed all of Wembanyama’s games on their app this season, and Lakers star LeBron James called him an “alien” as a compliment.

Wembanyama’s next destination will be determined on June 22, when the draft will be held at the Barclays Center.
