John Obi Mikel has tried to convince Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea, telling the Napoli striker that he will do ‘that deal’ with his former club.
Mikel played for Chelsea during a career spanning more than a decade at Stamford Bridge, where he made 372 appearances for the club, winning the Champions League and four Premier League titles.
The Nigerian retired from professional football last year and spoke to compatriot Osimhen in a bid to lure the striker to the Premier League giants.
Osimhen idolized legendary Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as a youngster and was tipped to leave Napoli this summer due to the club’s poor form and a rift in his relationship with the Scudetto champions.
Mikel was joined by the 24-year-old on his Obi One podcast and used part of the show to convince Osimhen that Chelsea should be his next destination.

Coincidentally, Chelsea are expected to look for a new striker this summer, despite Nicolos Jackson and Christopher Nkunku already in their squad.
Demonstrating his clever recruitment tactics, Mikel told Osimhen he would ‘100% come to Chelsea’ despite there likely to be interest from a host of Premier League and European clubs.
“It is not the time to go to Saudi Arabia,” Mikel explained to Osimhen after the striker revealed he had received offers from the Middle East.
‘Next season I know you’re going to Chelsea. I’ll be the agent who brokers that deal. You’re 100% coming to Chelsea!’
‘You will 100% go to Chelsea next season because we have been crying out for someone like you since the big man left, Didier Drogba. We haven’t had anyone with that figure and size who can score goals in big games.
‘I have the feeling that you are that person and fit in with what we want to achieve at that club.’
Osimhen stopped short of betting his future on the Blues or any other club, but did reveal the two Premier League shirts he had as a young boy growing up.
He explained that the English top flight is the most watched league in Nigeria and has friends who are fans of both Man United and Chelsea.

Osimhen helped Napoli to the Scudetto title last season and has been linked with a move to the Premier League
“I had two of my brother’s jerseys as a child: Chelsea and Manchester United,” Osimhen said.
‘When I played in the starting line-up (I was compared to Didier Drogba). We used to use my brother’s phone (to watch Drogba).
“Then I’d go out on the field and try to emulate (and learn) his game. I still look at Drogba’s compositions now.’
Osimhen’s existing contract at Napoli runs until 2025, meaning the club is in a strong position to negotiate a high price for his departure.
