Channel Seven news presenter Michael Usher has left The Latest as production moves from Sydney.
The veteran journalist, who has been the face of the show since its inception in 2018, will step down from his role in the programme.
The shift, which will take place in March, aims to streamline efficiencies across the network, a Seven spokesperson said.
Despite the geographic transition, the network assures that “the format, production quality and integrity of The Latest will remain unchanged,” giving viewers the same level of coverage they have come to expect.
Usher, a respected figure in Australian journalism, was a key part of the show’s success. He regularly presented around 10.30pm and, more recently, shared hosting duties with Angela Cox on alternating weekday evenings.

His departure marks the end of an era for the show, which was praised for its unique approach to news delivery.
However, the move to Perth is not expected to significantly disrupt the program’s staffing levels Television tonight reports that a small number of roles will be affected.
Previously, Usher told the publication: ‘The big difference with The Latest is that the content is all interviews and crosses.
Usher, a respected figure in Australian journalism, was a key part of the show’s success. He regularly presented around 10:30 pm and, more recently, shared hosting duties with Cox on alternating weekday evenings.
“We don’t publish reporters’ stories. I like to think that our audience has been busy all day and evening, and we can help them catch up on the day’s news and give them an idea of what’s in store in the morning so they can get to bed quickly can go.
‘I always try to end The Latest on a positive note. An image of thoughts that are uplifting before the day is over.’
The former Channel Nine presenter was poached by Channel Seven in 2016 after Melissa Doyle announced her departure from the network.
Usher’s role at Seven News Spotlight will continue.
