Vet reveals his top five favourite dog breeds that he would ‘personally consider getting’

A British vet has gone viral on TikTok after sharing a video revealing which five dog breeds he would “personally consider buying.”
The creator, known as @ben.the.vet, listed the pros and cons of his top favorite varieties in the clip that racked up nearly 42,000 views.
According to the vet, Greyhounds are ‘gentle’ and many of them need a loving home after their racing career is over and Border Terriers because they are ‘affectionate’ and form ‘strong attachments to people’.
From five and working back, he named the greyhound at number five and said, “They may not look very cuddly, but they are very gentle and there are so many who have to go home after their racing careers are over.”
He added that they often suffer from ‘very bad teeth’, so he said ‘make an effort to ‘brush their teeth’ from the start.

He continued: “They like to plod along for a walk, but they like the chance to sprint around, so make sure you give them that chance.”
He then went on to name border terrier as his fourth choice, saying ‘Next up is the filthy little boarder terrier, for me if I got a small dog she would be my first choice, in my experience they are quite affectionate little dogs and compared to other terriers they may form somewhat strong attachments to humans. ‘
He also admitted the puppies were “fairly robust in health,” but some are prone to luxating patella.
Luxating patella a condition in which the patella, or kneecap, dislocates or moves out of its normal location.
Ben advises people to talk to the breeder to see if the dog’s parents had any issues with the condition

He said: ‘This is a bit of a niche choice as there aren’t many around, but the ones I’ve met have a lovely temperament.
“Again mediocre and not over the top in their appearance, but they can be prone to joint problems such as hip dysplasia.”
In dogs, hip dysplasia is an abnormal formation of the hip socket that, in its more severe form, can eventually cause arthritis of the joints.
“They need a lot of exercise and stimulation, so I’d only get one if I had the time to take them two long walks a day.”

He said: ‘Again they look mediocre, at least they’re not overdone, overdoing it is bad for health so that’s good, but I’m a bit conflicted with them because unfortunately they have a few different issues.
He continued, “One of their biggest problems is joint problems, so I would definitely make sure that both parents have a hip and elbow fracture.”
“They also get fat very quickly, so I would be very careful to keep them short.”
His number one choice of dog is the mongrel, as their dog is less prone to disease.

“And I’m also not saying that these are the five possibly healthiest dog breeds, because every dog breed has some issues that they are prone to. Nor are these the only five I would consider.”
He continued: ‘Remember, it’s just my opinion and you have every right to disagree, so disclaimers out of the way…here goes.’
