A 52-year-old veterinarian took his own life using veterinary drugs after an argument with his fiancée, a judicial investigation has revealed.

An inquest in Exeter heard that Christian Eiermann was found dead in his bedroom at his home in Ebford, Devon, in October 2021.

His fiancée discovered him the day after they returned from a holiday in Greece.

The investigation found that the German-born Mr Eiermann had taken a lethal dose of two drugs used in euthanasia and pain management in animals.

An inquest at Exeter Crown Court (pictured) found that Christian Eiermann, 52, had taken a lethal dose of two drugs used for animals

He died from fatal poisoning from both drugs.

His fiancée said that a problem had arisen between them, which caused tension during the holiday. When they got home, he asked her to stay somewhere else that night.

During the evening, argumentative text messages were sent between the couple.

That same evening, he transferred a large amount of money to her bank account before giving her the medicine for the animals.

Mr. Eiermann was an international veterinary consultant who worked all over the world.

He had no known mental health problems.

According to police, there were no suspicious circumstances, despite the family’s concerns about the investigation.

Devon coroner Alison Longhorn concluded the death was a “highly experienced vet” who committed suicide.
